Latest Version of Expert Security Guide Addresses Rapidly-Changing Incident Response Landscape

Milpitas, CA - Aug 6, 2014 – FireEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: FEYE), the leader in stopping today’s advanced cyber attacks, today announced the release of Incident Response & Computer Forensics, Third Edition, which will also be available at Black Hat USA 2014 (Mandiant booth #246 and FireEye booth #411). The new edition includes a 90% rewrite to reflect and address the ever-changing security environment and how companies can best protect against, and recover from, increasingly sophisticated attacks.

"We rewrote this volume in response to the dramatic changes we’ve seen in attacks against the government and corporations throughout the world," said Kevin Mandia, senior vice president and COO of FireEye and founder and former chief executive officer of Mandiant, a FireEye company. "We want to help the industry stay ahead of sophisticated cyber criminals and encourage organizations to implement a comprehensive strategy that begins with detection and ends with remediation."

Incident Response & Computer Forensics was co-authored by Kevin Mandia, Matt Pepe (senior technical director and co-founder of Mandiant), Jason Luttgens (former technical director), and Ryan Kazanciyan (technical director). The book covers the entire lifecycle of incident response, including:

  • Preparation – such as how to form an incident response (IR) team, IR lifecycle management, and how to prepare an infrastructure for resolving future incidents;
  • Data collection and analysis – including the collection and preservation of live and offline systems, how to perform analysis on Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X; and
  • Remediation – which delves into real-world case studies and "how-to" solutions.
