New Offering Brings Purpose-Built Virtual-Machine Technology to Secure Email Gateway Market, Protecting Enterprises From Advanced and Traditional Email-Based Threats
Milpitas, CA - Jul 1, 2014 – FireEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: FEYE), the leader in stopping today's advanced cyber attacks, today announced the new release of FireEye® Email Threat Prevention Cloud™ that adds the traditional email security features of anti-spam and anti-virus protection to its advanced threat detection capabilities. Now generally available, the latest update to FireEye Email Threat Prevention Cloud creates the only secure email gateway solution that utilizes the FireEye Multi-vector Virtual Execution™ (MVX) engine and FireEye Dynamic Threat Intelligence™ (DTI) cloud.
"In email security, security teams need the ability to address traditional and advanced email-based attacks. By consolidating secure email with its virtual-machine technology, FireEye provides convenience and efficacy in one solution," said John Grady, principal analyst with IDC.
According to IDC’s Worldwide Network Security Forecast 2013–2017 and 2012 Vendor Shares, the needs of organizations using messaging security solutions will be related to implementing advanced threat prevention and signature-less malware detection within the next five years. To effectively address this shift, enterprises are looking to increase operational efficiencies by consolidating advanced email threat prevention with traditional email defenses.
FireEye Labs recently reported on an email spam campaign that it discovered was leveraging security evasion methods pioneered by advanced attackers. The campaign distributed up to 500,000 emails per outbreak and up to 6,400 different variants of its malware over the course of six months. In its analysis of the campaign, FireEye Labs found that traditional email security solutions failed to detect portions of the campaign’s malware variants.
“Traditional email security products do little to protect enterprises from advanced, sophisticated attacks,” said Manish Gupta, senior vice president of products, FireEye. “The FireEye Labs discovery of spammers deploying advanced attack methods serves as an ominous reminder that advanced attack methods are becoming commonplace and evade traditional defense. By unifying our advanced threat detection capabilities with the traditional email security tools enterprises have relied on, organizations can now have email security that efficiently protects them from the wide variety of attacks seen today.”
The new FireEye Email Threat Prevention Cloud optimizes enterprise security spending, reduces false positives, and enables operational efficiencies through consolidation. Key benefits of the new offering include:
The newly introduced anti-spam and anti-virus protection capabilities of the FireEye Email Threat Prevention Cloud can also be integrated with the on-premise FireEye Email Threat Prevention Platform. This solution allows for organizations needing on-premise, advanced email protection to enable comprehensive email threat prevention. With a pricing model that does not distinguish between on-premise or cloud consumption, customers and partners can easily unify their traditional and advanced email security needs.
